For today’s Blog post I thought I would share with you some of my favorite tools. I love to sew and create and I love to have great tools to do that. I have been sewing since I was 10 and I was very fortunate to have a mother with a great love of sewing. She was also an extremely talented seamstress. Therefore, she new that having great tools was imporatant. I knew from a very young age that Mom’s sewing scissors were never to be used on anything but fabric. I received this pair of Gingher straight sewing scissors when I was a teenager and I have them ever since. I purchased the pinking shears as an adult and also the rotary cutter. I do not have a favorite as they all serve different purposes. I think that have the right tools and good quality tools is so very important and worth the investment. The clips are the newest purchase, I got those last week at Hobby Lobby using a 40% off coupon. I really love them and I think that they are a great addition to my toolbox. Save your pennies and use those coupons, these items often go on sale! *Disclaimer – I am not being paid by Gingher, I just love their products!
I guess I am on a pillow kick. Yesterday it was a pillow for your phone, today it is a case for your pillow. I am working on Easter gifts and I love to make and give pillowcases. I picked these cute fabrics up at Joann’s and I love how they turned out. I bought the end of the bolt of the top piece and I wanted to make 8 pillowcases as I like to give them as sets so I made the top piece smaller than I normally would so that I had enough to do all eight. I did not buy enough of the purple to do all eight as it was quite expensive. I decided I would look around at different stores for more fabric that was similar. This one I am working on a tutorial also. Happy Tuesday!
So today from the little tiny sewing cave that I call my secret room (more on that later) I bring you the cell phone pillow!
So I decided to make some of these fun cell phone pillows and I thought I would give them to some of my friends.
I found this wonderful fabric at Hobby Lobby and I thought it would be great for some of my church friends. Just fun thing to set on your desk. Many of my friends work at churches or private schools, so this fabric is perfect.
And then I had this cherry fabric in my stash so I used that. I filled them with beans in the back and polyfil for the front roll. Maybe I will make some more and do a tutorial. That is all for now.
Yeah! I accomplished so much today in the way of sewing and crafting. I finished my Advent Calendar. I just have to purchase a rod to hang it up, but here it is with my daughter holding it up.
I also made another notebook cover and embroidered my daughter’s name on the front. Oh, did I mention that I have an embroidery machine and that I love to embroider? Well, I do. I also added a ribbon for a bookmark and a piece of elastic in the front for a pen holder.
I also made myself a pair of earrings. Oh, did I mention that my daughter and I like to make things with beads? Well, we do!
And, then I made an angel cell phone charm~
Amanda made this necklace ~
It turned out so cute. We had some great quality time this evening beading and chatting. I love to connect with her, these years (middle school) it is so important to stay connected to your kids. They have so many other outside influences! Anywhoooo, I had a great day! Besides the fact that I am accomplishing a ton, I am having fun doing it. The notebook covers and the cell phone charms are examples for me to use this Sunday. My sister and I and the kids (her 3, my 1) are having a “kids craft day”. Basically, the kids are going to make Christmas presents for their friends and teachers. They are excited. That is all for today, if I don’t go get some sleep I will fall over in my chair. Bye~
Ok, so my Advent is getting off to a somewhat rocky start. I am behind!! What else is new. I went to Joann’s this weekend to purchase an Advent Wreath (don’t know where mine is!) and they don’t sell them anymore. What is up with that. So on to plan B. I purchased a wreath and some Advent Candles (they had those, go figure) and I am making my own. Well, that was until I got home and realized that I don’t have enough candle holders. So I currently have half an Advent Wreath.
I will have to get the other holders today. Then I have not finished my Advent Calender. It is really cute. I got the panel from my local craft store, I just need to get it put together. That is what I will be doing tonight. Hopefully when I blog tomorrow, I will have finished projects to share.
The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem! Actually, I don’t think there is any recovery needed, I like my addiction. I love pens and pencils, ok, actually I also love notebooks, journals, diaries, purses, fabric. . . . ok, ok, the list is long. Yesterday, my girlfriend called me and said that the Office Depot near us was going out of business and that everything was 75% off. For an addict (like me) this is great news. So my daughter and I ran over there, intending on getting a couple of things. We had a blast. I did not get a picture of everything we bought (that would be embarrassing), no instead a took a picture of some (ok, about 1/4) of the pens we bought, did I mention I love pens?
I spent $40.00, but the women stated that I had saved $122.00. Wow, that is crazy. We did get things other than just pens and pencils, there were post-it notes, and notebooks etc.
Ok, so enough about one of my many addictions back to sewing. I made the following notebook cover using the tutorial from Craft Apple. I did not do it as a patchwork as she has shown, I made it just a simple cover.
